In order to display sincere confidence to your employees, you must be able to address your own faults, not denying that everyone has some. Confidence is evident in those who are able to own up to their shortcomings. Not only will this tell your employees that you are constantly striving for improvement, but it will produce actual results.

Your first step in accurately identifying any faults in your leadership skills is understanding what motivates you to achieve your goals. This is where the notion of leaving your comfort zone in order to achieve greatness comes into play. Your motivation is ultimately defined by your fears and what you are constantly avoiding due to uncertainty. This is a common flaw in many leaders, so don’t let it deter you from continuing forward. Rather, tackle these fears head on, and understand that addressing them, whether the outcome is successful or not, is a bold step in the right direction that can lead to serious growth in your leadership qualities, and in you as a person.

While it is not often recommended to compare yourself to others, doing so in a positive manner as a leader can help you easily identify faults you may not have known you possessed. Study the behaviors and habits of the most successful leaders you know and the ones who you admire. Take note of things you may be doing similarly to them, and the things that they might be doing that seem outlandish or outside the box. As mentioned before, strategies outside your comfort zone can lead to great success.

Know what kind of leader you are as well. For example, are you a manager that often advocates telling the truth at all times regardless of the outcome? Or, are you one that allows your employees to act on their own in order to succeed, rarely stepping in to help? Though these are just two, the types of leadership styles certain individuals possess all have pros and cons. The trick is learning how to reduce the number of cons.

One of the most important aspects of leadership to keep in mind is the fact that it is a regularly changing role. You must be willing to change at all times, such is the key to success in any role within the business world. Adaptation is what keeps you up to date with the latest, and what will ultimately prevent you from falling behind. Don’t get comfortable with one style of leadership. Eventually, even the most innovative leaders will become outdated. Be aware of your most common repeats, and always seek new opportunities to better yourself. Continued education can go extremely far in all aspects of business.

In conclusion, you as a leader must comfortably and confidently address your own weaknesses in order to maintain your success. Promote this mindset within your employees as well. Like many understand, nobody’s perfect, but to refuse to improve any flaws that may be hindering your business and your professional growth would be foolish. Challenge yourself to overcome these weaknesses on a daily basis.
